Second Summit is Outeniqua Bound’s circular gear system — a trusted way to keep good outdoor equipment out of landfills and back where it belongs: on the trail. You can Second your gear (sell it back to us) or buy for your Second Summit (choose graded, adventure-ready gear). Either way, you’re making an eco-conscious call that keeps resources in circulation and adventure accessible.

How Second Summit Works?

Outdoor gear is built to go far — not to end up in a bin. Second Summit is our way of extending the life of quality equipment through reuse, honest grading, and real transparency. We assess every item, grade it clearly, and rehome it with someone who’ll put it to work again. Right now, Second Summit runs in person at our Outeniqua Bound pod at Trail Kiosk (George, Western Cape, SA) and at selected expo booths. We’ll roll out an online Second Summit system in due course.

The Second Summit Grades

One quick look, and you’ll know what you’re getting.

🟢 Green — Almost New Minimal use, excellent condition, maximum life left. Ready for big missions.

🔵 Blue — Still Solid Used but well cared for. Reliable, fully functional, and trail-worthy. Real value.

🟠 Orange — Adventure Worn Shows its miles. More cosmetic wear, still useful and capable. Priced to make adventure more accessible.

All items are checked before they hit the shelf. Some categories may be accepted only if they meet safety standards.

Step-by-step

Step 1 — Bring it in Drop your gear at the Outeniqua Bound pod at Trail Kiosk (George) or at one of our expo booths. Step 2 — We assess it We check condition, functionality, and safety. Step 3 — We grade it Green / Blue / Orange — simple, transparent, honest. Step 4 — It gets a second life We clean it, prep it, and put it back into the system to be rehomed. Step 5 — You choose what’s next Either you’ve Seconded your gear — or someone else buys it for their next adventure.
