How Second Summit works
Outdoor gear is built to go far, not to end up in a bin. Second Summit is our way of extending the life of quality equipment through reuse, honest grading and real transparency. We assess every item, grade it clearly and rehome it with someone who will put it back to work.

Second Your Gear
Bring in gear you are no longer using. We inspect it, grade it and give it a second run. Good gear should not sit still and now it does not have to.

The Second Summit Grades
One quick look, and you'll know what you're getting.
Almost New. Minimal use, excellent condition and maximum adventure left. Ready for big missions.
Still Solid. Used but well cared for. Reliable, fully functional and trail worthy. Real value.
Adventure Worn. Shows its miles. Some cosmetic wear but still useful and capable. Seconded to make the outdoors more accessible.
All items are checked before they hit the shelf. Some categories may be accepted only if they meet safety standards.

What is Second Summit?

Where can I drop off gear?
Right now Second Summit runs in person at the Outeniqua Bound Basecamp at Trail Kiosk, George, Western Cape.
Can I submit gear online?
An online Second Summit system is coming soon.
How does the grading work?
Green — Almost new. Barely been out there.
Blue — Still solid. Has seen some trail and loved every step.
Orange — Adventure worn. Earned every mark on it.
What gear do you accept?
We focus on outdoor gear that's clean, functional, and safe. Acceptance depends on condition and category (e.g. packs, jackets, sleeping systems, bags).
Do you buy everything that gets brought in?
No - we only take gear that meets our quality and safety standards. If it doesn't make the cut, we'll let you know straight.
Is Orange gear "bad" gear?
Not at all. Orange simply means it's more worn. It can still be a great option - especially for entry-level adventurers, backup kit, or "get it done" missions.
Why does buying second-hand matter?
Because it reduces demand for new production and keeps usable gear in circulation longer. It's one of the simplest eco-conscious decisions you can make - without giving up performance or adventure.
How will I know what I'm getting?
Transparency is the whole point. Each item is graded clearly, and we'll add notes where needed - so there are no surprises.
When will the online system launch?
We'll announce it once the in-person system is running smoothly and we can guarantee the same level of trust, grading consistency, and service online.
